The Halloween Witch

From the Iamawitch.com website. I've read this before and it always leaves me pensive. Each year they parade her about, the traditional Halloween Witch. Misshapen green face, stringy scraps of hair, a toothless mouth beneath her deformed nose. Gnarled knobby fingers twisted into a claw, protracting from a bent and twisted torso that lurches about on wobbly legs. Most think this abject image to be the creation of a prejudiced mind or merely a Halloween caricature. I disagree; I believe this to be how Witches were really seen. Consider that most Witches: were women, were abducted in the night, and smuggled into dungeons or prisons under the secrecy of darkness to be presented by light of day as a confessed Witch. Few if any saw a frightened normal looking woman being dragged into a secret room filled with instruments of torture, to be questioned until she confessed to anything suggested to her and to give names or what ever would stop the questions. Crowds saw the aberration denounced to the world as a self-proclaimed Witch. As the Witch was paraded through town en route to be burned, hanged, drowned, stoned or disposed of in various other forms of Christian love, all created to free and save her soul from her depraved body the jeering crowds viewed the results of hours of torture. The face bruised and broken by countless blows bore a hue of sickly green. The once warm and loving smile gone, replaced by a grimace of broken teeth and torn gums that leers beneath a battered disfigured nose. The disheveled hair conceals bleeding gaps of torn scalp from whence cruel hands had torn away the lovely tresses. Broken twisted hands clutched the wagon for support, fractured fingers with nails torn away locked like groping claws to steady her broken body. All semblance of humanity gone this was truly a demon, a bride of Satan, a Witch. I revere this Halloween Crone and hold her sacred above all. I honor her courage and listen to her warnings of the dark side of man. Each year I shed tears of respect when the mundane exhibit their symbol of Christian love. angel © 6-26-99 Petals & Thorns Halloween Crazy!

I get a little decoration crazy at Halloween. Here's a little bit of the mayhem... These are all thumbnails - click and you can see the bigger image. There are a few more in my Halloween album. My camera phone seems to be slightly misbehaving so the quality is lacking, but oh well! On another note, my Grandma is doing MUCH better. She is conscious and stable but on a respirator. Hopefully she keeps improving and can be out of the hospital in a little while. Happy thoughts!!! October, the departed, and spirits...

I just returned from northern lower Michigan where the fall foliage is stunning. However, I learned upon my return that my last remaining grandmother is in the hospital and the prognosis isn't particularly good. She's had issues with her blood pressure being high for a while now and she's not always good about taking her medicine. And she sits at the kitchen table and chain smokes all day, not good either. Not much for exercise, not a great eater. She had a little mini doxie for a companion up until about 2 weeks ago when he passed away. My mom went to see her on Sunday and found her in very bad shape. Her neighbors had called mom when she was on her way there and said they couldn't get her to answer the door so they let themselves in and found her very disoriented and weak. Mom got her to the hospital where she's been diagnosed with pneumonia and emphysema (which apparently she's had for a long time - undiagnosed). She is in critical but stable condition. But we don't really know how she will be because the carbon dioxide in her blood was so high they were surprised she was still alive -so what did that do to her brain? Anyhow, seems that October is the time for humans and animals to just shut down before the long cold winter. All the plants prepare, why not us? I lost my dad in October, one boyfriend, and several other people and pets in October (coincidentally my divorce was finalized in October too). So each Samhain is very relevant for me. October is still one of my very favorite months, and I think perhaps it is because of the balance of life and death being so very apparent at this time. I really feel alive in October, and I have a greater appreciation for all who have passed before me.
Not sure which way to pray for my grandma, whether it be life or death - just I suppose for the most kind resolution that can be had for her. Love to all of you and yours out there during this beautiful season of change. Marilyn Manson "Halloween" from Nightmare Before..

This was just too fun to hear and watch. I love this movie, and love Marilyn Manson.
